Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina
Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American
actress and director known for her sexy appeal and edginess as well as for her
charitable work. She was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting part as a
mentally ill patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon
Voight, spent much of her early years in New York before relocating to Los
Angeles at age 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film
Institute for two years, and later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. After
that, she studied acting at New York University. In addition to appearing in
theater productions, she also modeled and appeared in music videos.Jolie's
first major movie part was in Hackers (1995), during the filming process, she
had her first marriage with British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996;
divorced 1999). Similar to several other films, the film did not find an
audience. In 1997, however, Jolie garnered much attention portraying the wife
of Alabama's segregationist governor the TV film George Wallace, and she was
later awarded the Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. In the HBO film Gia,
she played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction. Jolie was awarded a
variety of distinctions as well as the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors
Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance Girl, Interrupted, Jolie
was in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and in
2003 she divorced. She played the role of the girlfriend of the carjacker
(Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later changed her accent to
a British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing to play the main
roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle
of Life (2003). She played Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander in
2004 and she also appeared alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky
Captain: The World of Tomorrow the thriller featuring sci-fi in 1930s New York
City. Both films did poorly at the box office, but Jolie's Mr. & Mrs.
Smith (2005) was a success. Jolie played a character pretending to be a normal
householdwife as she worked on the film. Brad Pitt became her co-star.
